Lt. Edmond Dubh Forstall of Gurteens Castle and Kellymount (d. 1733), was the heir of Peter Forstall or Forrestal of Carrickcloney Castle (d. 1683). He fought at the Siege of Limerick in 1690 and is the progenitor of the Forstall lineages of Ringville, Rochestown, and New Orleans. Following the Treaty of Limerick, Edmond Dubh became the most powerful representative or chief of the Forstall family of Ireland. The chieftainship of the family was formerly held by the Kilferagh lineage who were Lords of Kilferagh and Ballyfrunk, and whose lands were forfeited in subsequence of the Eleven Years’s War (further information about the Lineage of Kilferagh can be read here). Edmond’s direct male line survives to the present (2026) through the Forstall lineage of New Orleans.
The genealogical chart below was completed in March 2026 and will appear in The Principal Wills and Pedigrees of the Lords of Kilferagh and House of Carrickcloney scheduled for release later this year.
